What Is Shotcrete And shotcrete

Time:2022-09-02

Shotcrete and shotcrete are two trade terms for different types of shotcrete. Shotcrete was developed as a construction solution for tunnels, underground structures, slope stabilization, structural repairs and swimming pools. The process involves a type of mortar or small aggregate concrete that is sprayed onto the surface at high speed using aerodynamic forces. The force of the concrete shot consolidates and compacts the material and ensures it adheres to the main surface.

Shotcrete type: dry shotcrete or wet shotcrete.Shotcrete and shotcrete are essentially the same material, but they use different processes. Shotcrete is the popular trade term for dry shotcrete, while shotcrete is the common term for wet shotcrete.

With the shotcrete method, dry concrete ingredients are placed in a hopper, which is then pneumatically pushed out of the nozzle through a hose. The nozzle operator then controls the amount of water added at the nozzle, turning the dry ingredients into concrete that is fully mixed by the time the material reaches the surface of the body. This allows the operator to control the amount of water added to the mix, resulting in a better placement process without the need for additional accelerators. This method is recommended when frequent pauses are involved in the application process.

Wet mix shotcrete uses fully mixed concrete and delivers it through hoses and nozzles without the need for additional water. This is the most common process because it produces less bounce (material that falls to the ground and is wasted) and dust than dry mix sprays. The biggest advantage of the wet mix process is that larger volumes can be placed in less time.
